Easier to digest, really?

Posted by theancientpathsfamilyfarm on September 24, 2007

A relative of ours was instructed years ago by her physician to eat pork as her primary meat because it is easier to digest and therefore easier on the entire digestive system. This relative has had a lot of trouble in recent years relating to her stomach and intestines, so much so that she almost died (twice now) from having simply polyps removed.

Our family recently did a meat experiment (of which I won’t disclose exactly what we were testing in case anyone else is interested in doing the same experiment but I will tell you to look closely!). One of the results we found Read the rest of this entry »

Meat Experiment

Posted by theancientpathsfamilyfarm on September 20, 2007

I have read about this experiment a few times and our family is going to do it tomorrow when all the kids get home. If you do it, let me know what results you get. 🙂 If you’ve already done this before, let me know how it went.

Here’s what you need:
raw pork (this is a vital part of the experiment, don’t substitute)
raw beef (this is also a must)
8 clear jars (with lids optional)
cola (coke or pepsi, preferably not the cheap store brand)

FIRST you have to state your hypothesis and the kids need to state theirs too. Cut pork and beef into same size pieces and place in separate jars – the pork in four jars and the beef in four separate jars. Pour liquid on each specimen (I’ve seen it covering each specimen and I’ve seen it where it’s not fully submerged. I’m not sure which is best). Observe specimen in each jar. Note what is taking place within the first 5 minutes and then at regular intervals from then on. Record results.

I wanted to do fish as well, but that may have to be another experiment at another time. I’m also considering adding another set to the process – rubbing alcohol. I’ll place lids on the jars to keep the experiment clean (assuming one is using clean jars and lids already). I’ve heard to let the jars sit for 3 days but then I’ve heard that this experiment is over within a few short hours. I don’t know, I think we’ll go for the 3 days and see what we get at the end.

And another suggestion for an experiment (different one) was to use something like rum (would it work any different than vodka? I don’t know, we’ll find out) and let the specimen soak in it for 24 hours then to note what condition the specimen is in at that point to illustrate one good reason NOT to drink strong liquor, at least not very often. I’m curious to see what it looks like in Coke after 24 hours (since now we’ve stopped drinking it regularly – no Coke in almost 3 weeks now!).

I’m not going to tell you what to expect from this little experiment because that would ruin your own hypothesis! 🙂

Now, before you go and google this to see what you’re supposed to look for – I already did that. Snopes says it’s a fraud yet I’ve seen enough pictures of other homeschoolers who have done this experiment to believe them over Snopes. Besides, after reading what Snopes has written on their page, I don’t think they know what they’re talking about. Look at Snopes AFTER you do the experiment and see if their results are similar to yours.

Blessings ~
